World Matchplay around the corner, darts giants are afraid of the young blood!
The World Matchplay is nearby, as darts magicians are preparing day and night to enter the competition with the best tools.
The European Darts Open hits July 6 and is considered by dart throwers as an opportunity to prepare for the World Matchplay.
This time, the stakes are higher than ever. Young players have been over powering the giants of the sport. The sport of darts has changed.
The UK Open witnessed Robert Thornton beating Phil “The Power” Taylor in the finale. It was an unbelievable sight, as Taylor is a 15-time world champion. Thornton was a rookie in the Open and defeating Taylor was something that no one expected.
Taylor was stunned with Roland’s form in the early rounds of the UK Open. Taylor’s experience was no match with the passion Roland demonstrated in his play.
“He came back well and put me under pressure, and I'll admit that my bottle was going. I was shaking a little bit because you don't want to get beaten in your first game here,” said Taylor, concluding Roland’s effort at the UK Open.
Thornton was overwhelmed with his victory over “The Power” and considered the win as his ‘all-time best’.
“I'm very proud, my kids are going to be up jumping all over the place. To just get to the final, I was happy enough. To win it... it's just unbelievable” said an ecstatic Thornton.
Times have certainly changed.
Adrian “The Jackpot” Lewis is another prominent figure in darts that has seen the best of the game. He is currently world number 2 and is in poor form these days.
Lewis has been in misery since the McCoy’s Premier League. His form has deteriorated after facing defeat at the hands of Simon Whitlock, which led to his exit from the League.
The current genre of darts demands a tremendous amount of passion and dedication. Taking the game easy will be responsible for an early exit for players who think they have it all in them.
The European Darts Open and the World Matchplay are the most crucial events for big names as the dawn of young blood has been promising this year and giants have fallen.
