World Mountain Running Association Grand Prix back in Slovenia - Athletics news
After having a successful NACAC Mountain running sessions event and the European Championships, the World Mountain Running Association has decided to observe the 13th edition of the Gorski tek na Grintovec in the Slovenian city, Kamnik. The event,
which is to commence on this Sunday, July 24, is the third leg of this year’s WMRA Grand Prix.
Running, indeed, has been among the sports that need a strenuous body and an impeccable stamina, as exploring simple straight tracks are completely different from exploring rough and rug hilly terrains. It is this added sense of adventure that has been helping
this newly found discipline of athletics in earning overnight popularity among track and field runners, along with trackers from around the globe.
In the event kicking-off in Kamnik, the face of the race will be formed by athletes like Ahmet Arslan, Jan Krupicka, David Schneider and Mitja Kosovelj in the men’s squad, while the women’s field will be marked by runners-come-hikers like Lucija Krkoc and
European Junior Champion of 2010 and 2011, Denisa Dragomer.
After having a look at the names which have decided to be a part of the run, it is well evident that it will be a thrilling race. Unlike the races run on roads or tracks, it takes longer for the runner to cross the finishing line in this meet, as they also
explore mountainous tracks. However, the element of thrill is very much there as it provides a chance to see the fighting spirit of the runners at a time, when they are totally exhausted but still detest the thoughts of taking on the challenging task in hand.
Among few of the names that have been mentioned above, Arslan and Krkoc are not only favourites to emerge in their respective meets, but they are also expected to clock new finishes for the distances. The current records for the men’s meet stands at one
hour, fifteen minutes and 43 seconds, while in the women’ category, it is one hour, thirty one minutes and fifty seconds. Both of these records were set by Jonathan Wyatt and Anna Pichrtova respectively, in 2006.
