World Number One, Lee Chong Wei says Lin Dan will not be lucky next time – Badminton News
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, who is World Number One at the moment in the Men’s Singles category, says that China’s Lin Dan will not be lucky next time as the Chinese was fortunate in winning the final match of the 2011 World Championships, held at the Wembley
arena in London, on August 14.
Both shuttlers played tremendous badminton in the thrilling three-set final match at the mega event. The Malaysian was moving around in the court with the same speed of the Chinese, who is known for his speed and aggression. The pace of the game remained
at the highest level and the quality in play was quite visible from the most famous and successful shuttlers in the world.
The Malaysian won the opening game with a tight margin, while Lin strongly came back in the second game and levelled the score. In the final set, the score reached at the ending points where Chong Wei got a match point on two occasions, but he missed both
chances which helped Lin in winning the title match with a narrow margin.
After the final battle, Chong Wei said, “This is the closest match I had played in a major event against Lin Dan. Maybe luck was on his side but I don't think he will be lucky all the time.”
While talking about the 2012 London Olympics, Chong Wei said, “The Olympics will be held at the Wembley Arena again and I hope I can do what Lin Dan did to me this time in the most prestigious event.”
He was dejected over his loss in the Men’s Singles final as he said, “It was heart wrenching to lose in that manner but I have to move on. Lack of sparring partners is not the problem and I'm not going to say that Lin Dan is performing better because China
have more quality players. It is always him that they depend on.”
Now, Chong Wei will focus to win the Men’s Singles gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, which will also be held next year in the Wembley Arena, where the 2011 World Championships took place.
