World Number one Argentina Women’s team defeats USA 5-0 in Four Nations Tournament
Argentina Women’s hockey team put in a tremendous effort as they proved once again why they are ranked the World Number one hockey team as they comprehensively beat the USA Women’s hockey team 5-0 in the opening match of the Four Nations Tournament at Mendoza,
Argentina.
The match was a treat for the home audience to see their team win in their first match against the US. The host team managed to score five scores to the US in the first half, making it impossible for US to chase. The finest of all goals was shot by the talented
Argentinean Barrionuevo in the mid of the first half. The Argentinean team’s coach, Retegui expressed his happiness for such a victory in the news conference held subsequent to the match.
However, in the second half US managed very well to keep the Argentina’s strikers away from the goal post, holding the score board at 5. But it was still up to the US female strikers to take initiative to hit the goals against Argentina. Unfortunately, the
second half ended with no goals from both the teams and Argentina went victorious, retaining their current Number one rank.
Currently, another match is being played between the World Number three Germany and World Number five Australia and is a fearsome battle being fought among the two. Until now, Australia’s close celebrated a goal against Germany.
The Australian defenders are also proving to be head-to-head with the strikers. Australia’s Nanscawen gave a good block to the German striker Haase during the match.
The match is quite unpredictable as both sides fought hard for an advantage. It is the matter of time that who wins and who loses would be revealed in the decisive last minutes of the match.
The next matches for the US team are scheduled to be held as follows:
February 10: Australia Vs United States
February 12: Germany Vs United States
Later, on conclusion of this series on February 13, the US Women’s hockey team shall be proceeding for another Four Nation’s Tournament to be held at Rosario, Argentina from February 16-20. It is more a challenge for the US Women to prove their potential
among the World top-ranked teams.
This Argentinean tour comprises of the three guest teams and one host team. The three guest teams are USA, Germany (No. 3 rank) and Australia (No. 2 rank).
A total of eight matches would be played by the US Women’s hockey team in both the Four Nations Tournaments. These Tournaments hold huge importance for all the four teams because it is more a development plan being run to excel for the upcoming London Olympics
2012.
