World peace: No more wars, no more fighting, however; everyone does everything exactly the same, at the same time, and same place. Everyone is a human robot. There is no allowance for personal thinking. You lose your iindividuality

Freedom of Mind: You can do what you want when you want. You have the option to believe and show yourself to the world the way you like. However, it is this freedom that is the reason why arguments, fights and wars start.

  1.    Both seem so out of reach that I choose reality.

  2. freedom of mind. If you had world peace and no freedom of mind then how would you actually know there was world peace.

  3. Freedom of mind because if I didn't have that I would see no peace in the world.

  4. In a time when most young people are asking HOW do we achieve world peace, it is good to see someone has the right idea that it comes down to "World Peace or Freedom of Mind."

While I disagree with your assumption that we would all be robots, I choose freedom--of everything.

To achieve world peace would require a tyranny so large it would make the combination of Soviet Russia, China, and the WW2 Axis looking like a small nation.

It would require tyranny, because to achieve such peace would require overcoming all the objections to the new rules (which would, of course, be "robotic."

These new rules, instead of being freedom oriented as were the ideas in the U.S. Constitution (we have, after all, only had one war betwen our own factions, and that did not have to happen,) we would instead have imposed upon us the rules of tyranny.

But even in nations like China there is no peace. The Chinese could be said to be robots. Did you watch the opening to the Olympic games? Former Sec'y of State Madeline Albright once said that was the kind of spectacular precision that only a dictator could demand--and get.

And yet there exists internal strife within China as bad or worse than ever existed in the U.S. We killed 4 students at Kent State U. during the VietNam war. The Chinese killed how man in Tienamen Square?

  5. Ill take openminded peace.

  6. World Peace..That would exist only if any each of us representing a Peace of Mind...Peace of Mind and Freedom of Mind is essentially the same thing....Yes you may do that which you desire with one exception, your mind is free from desires which bring you trouble....so, all started with you and all ended with you...That means You is first and chicken with eggs would be in relation or not to be as you wish.

  7. i think you need freedom of mind for world peace.

slavery is not peace. it's not peace if you are forced against your will. tyranny is not peace. that you hold someone at gunpoint but do not fire is not peace.

it is not that people have differences of opinion that causes wars. perhaps in the sense that some aren't open minded, kind of stubborn, that choose to have an opinion and are unwilling to make concessions or change their mind. this is what causes conflict. difference of opinion without that, causes learning and teaching.

it does not require that everybody is a robot. that your favorite song is one song and my favorite is another is completely subjective, and though we are different it need not cause war or conflict. showing yourself to the world the way you like is not the cause of conflict. but being unwilling to make sacrifices in the areas where sacrifices and concessions are necessary is. it doesn't make you a robot any more than the fact that most human beings think murder is bad. that we agree does not make us robots, in fact i think that we can reason and learn and come to a consensus makes us exactly the opposite. a robot is something you give one command and it brainlessly continues never changing regardless of what circumstances arise. humanity, intelligence, allows you to consider, learn, change your mind, improve and grow. these features allow us to agree, science is agreement, concensus. that science exists does not make us robots. the fact we disagree makes us much more like robots. sticking to our guns, not being reasonable, illogical.

people say we need war because we are human, it is our nature. but truly it is the nature of animals, fighting over food, and women, the strongest survive. the nature of humans that is separate from that is our intelligence, ability to reason, read and write, learn, the ability to know. it is the animal in us that prevents peace, the human in us strives for it.

but in your hypothetical situation, if we were all like robots doing the same thing without personal thinking then, we would not be able to think that this situation of not having personal thinking is bad. it would be not unlike being dead can't be disappointing since you are not alive in order to feel the disappointment.

so in that way definitely the robots and peace over the freedom of mind, because in the freedom of mind scenario i can't freely observe and feel the disappointment that we have not achieved what only intelligent animals can. peace.

  8. It wouldn't matter which one if it was offered to me.  World Peace is realized in the peaceful mind.  The Peaceful mind has the power to bring about World Peace.  it just so happens that it is not in the way people commonly expect.
