World Record and Olympics Record?

During the Olympics broadcasts, I keep seeing the terms Olympics record and World record. Where was the world record attained? Which games was the world record acquired?

A world record is the fastest time or highest score ever achieved in the event at any competition - including the Olympics. The Olympic record is the fastest time ever recorded at the Olympics.

world records can be set or broken during any competitions (worlds, olympics, etc). olympic records can only be set during the olympics

I assume your talking swimming. They race in other events besides the olympics. Those records were attained during none olympic events.

olympic records are the best results ever in olympic games, and world records are the best results ever no matter where its set, aisan game, world championship, world cup etc.
