Question:

World Red (garden) Lava Rock be OK to put in an aquarium?

Would anythinhg have to be done with it first ... like boiling, etc.?

  1. I put a piece in with my red devil. Its the only rock he can't pick up and move. That's why I like it so much.


  2. I used lava rock in my tank, although if I could do it again I would choose something else. The rocks are so big that plants can't root very well, meaning I'm constantly trying to put them back where they belong. Also, it's too rough for me to have bottom dwellers like corys or loaches. On the other hand, it does look nice and only cost $5 for a 50 pound bag.If you still want to use it, make sure to rinse it very well to get all the dust and dirt off. You probably don't have to boil it, but you can if you want.

    edit: By the way, I assumed you were asking about using lava rock as the substrate. If you meant you want to use some pieces as a decoration that would be fine. Lava rock is completely inert and safe to use.
