World Sailing Champion Quantum Racing leads after third day: 2011 Audi MedCup Marseille Trophy
Consistency brought the World Sailing Champion, Quantum Racing of USA, on the top at the end of day three of the 2011 Audi MedCup Marseille Trophy on Friday, June 17. The Marseille Trophy commenced
form June 14 at the Vieux Port harbour in Marseille, France with races in two yacht classes. TP52 and S40 fleets.
The day started with a southeasterly breeze blowing from 9 to 19 knots across the Vieux Port harbour. The sailing teams sailed in three races today, featuring three different winners in TP52 series
as the winds moved up to 15 to 19 knots.
Gladiator of Great Britain clinched the first rave to make it two in a row, followed by Bribón of Spain to win the second, while ALL4ONE powered Audi Sailing Team grabbed the third race in the afternoon
when the clouds covered the area.
However, Quantum Racing maintained their consistency during the day and after taking 3, 4, 3 positions in all three races respectively, they finished the day on first place overall at 24, three points
ahead of Germany’s Container.
While speaking to the local media, the project manager of Quantum Racing, Ed Reynolds said, “Today was a minefield out there, you have to give big props to Ado Stead, he avoided all the booby traps.
Today with ten points is really huge for us, because it could so easily have been a big points day.”
He added, “I think the guys have confidence now that we are pretty quick and don’t have to take a big risk. And hanging in with the pack I know there are times when he was disappointed. He thought
there was a big gain and let go but it made sense to do what he did. I thought he sailed brilliant.”
