World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn admits he is a snooker addict – Snooker News
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn has so far changed the face of the game with his drastic initiatives during the past two years. He did face a lot of ill words in response to his actions but he did not bother and continued his duties as a chairman.
His plans really worked for snooker and it has become one of the world’s most watched sports on television among games like tennis, football and cricket.
Being the chairman of the sport, Hearn keeps a good eye on what is going on in the game and believes that it is not only his duty but his passion as well. The chairman reckons snooker is his addiction and he always keeps a personal record of the tournaments
running around the world. Even when he is sitting home, he is watching the matches being played anywhere in the world.
Speaking to the Press Association Sport, Hearn said, “I'm a snooker addict, I sit at home watching the live scores and I've got my chart where I cross players off as they go out. I'm always looking at the structure and what might happen if I go under a bus
- please God it doesn't happen.”
The chairman added, “I think I've got a few years yet before they pedal me off dribbling to the old people's farm, and by that time I'm hoping that I've created a management infrastructure that works independently of me.”
The 63-year-old Hearn has brought great reforms into snooker and due to his remarkable contributions, the game is now recognised around the world and the young generation is now more inclined towards the game. Hearn is aiming to make snooker one of the most
attractive games of the world and in order to fulfil his ambition, he is ready to take all possible measures. It will be interesting to see what new ideas Hearn has to promote snooker around the world.
Meanwhile, the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifiers are underway at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield where the rookies and journeymen are battling to book a spot in the opening round of the tournament at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
