World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn makes new changes in formats of German Masters and Welsh Open
There had been a lot of discussions and criticism against the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn for his initiatives. The snooker boss had been busy making different changes in the snooker calendar and formats of certain tournaments. This time, he has done
the same thing again as he has changed the playing format of two major ranking events; the German Masters and the Welsh Open snooker tournament.
The German Masters and the Welsh Open are two of the major ranking events which take place in the second half of the snooker season. Hearn has made changes in the playing format of both tournaments. According to the new alterations, the chairman has decided
to change the qualifying session format as well as the prize money of both events.
While announcing new changes, Hearn said, “A change of format for the German Masters and Welsh Open next season. Players ranked 33-96 will play one match, with the winners to face players ranked 1-32 (exact format, in terms of how many players at the venue,
is to be confirmed).”
The snooker chief added, “German Masters prize money increased to 300,000 Euros with a top prize of 60,000 Euros. Welsh Open up to £250,000 with the winner to get £50,000.”
Besides, the World Snooker head has also announced the venues for the European tour of Players Tour Championship (PTC) which include Belgium, Bulgaria, Poland and Germany. The prize money of the PTC Grand Finals has also been increased to £300,000 with a
top prize of £100,000.
The snooker chief has been the torch bearer of the sports current position in the world. With his impressive steps, since he joined the sport’s management as chairman in 2009, Hearn has been a superb manager of the game and has made snooker one of the most
watched sports in the world.
He introduced some major and minor ranking snooker events during his tenure such as Australian Goldfields Open, Brazil Masters and the PTC events which played an important role in the popularity of the game. He also made changes in the formats of different
