World Snooker Championship 2011: Young Judd Trump leads over Martin Gould after First Session
The first session of the best-of-25 frames match between Englishmen, Judd Trump, and, Martin Gould, in the second round of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011 ended with the young Trump leading over compatriot Gould at 5-3.
Both cueists showed high quality game-play during the first session with offensive and brisk shots and outstanding potting skills. The Whitchurch potter, Trump, believes that this match will be a thriller as it progresses.
He said earlier this match, "It's going to be a really tough match for me, and if Martin gets on a roll he'll be hard to stop. I can't afford to take him lightly. He's an attacking player, so I'm sure it will be quite an open and probably going to be a quick match”.
On the other hand, Martin Gould is looking forward to a steady but deadly game-play to outclass the China Open 2011 champion, Trump. The 29-year-old from London expressed his thoughts about his match with Trump earlier saying that it will be a tough but quick match.
“I don't think it will take very long. Neither of us has anything to lose, we've both got everything to win. Judd's a great player. He's become more of an all-round player than he used to be. His safety game is not quite the best but there won't be much safety in our match whatsoever”, Gould said.
As predicted by Trump and Gould, the first session went briskly with both players pouncing on the table quickly. Trump fired some decent breaks of 54 and 92 to take a 3-0 early lead in the session. The Pinner Potter, Gould, replied well after that and clinched three consecutive frames at 26-66, 4-76, and, 44-64 to equalise on the score-board at 3-3.
At this moment the match took a little bit attention and thrill, as both players were looking forward to lead at the end of the session.
However, the 21-year old Trump seized the opportunity and with a superb clearance of 80 in the seventh frame, he grabbed a one-frame lead over Gould at 4-3.
The Bristolian extended this lead to two frames after he won the eighth one convincingly with 71-43 before the end of the first session of the match at the Crucible Theatre. The match will resume on April 22, 2011, at the same arena.
