The best-of-seven frames session three and four of this season’s World Snooker Q School concluded at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The overall results for both sessions are given below:
Session Three:
Oliver Brown 1-4 Charlie Walters
The first match in the 4 pm session saw Charlie Walters moving into the next round with an impressive 4-1 lead over Oliver Brown. Though it was an old fashioned game, Walters was able to win it comfortably with dominant runs of 57, 39, 47 and 32.
Ben Harrison 1-4 Chen Zhe
It was yet another quick match-up, as the Chinese, Zhe easily outplayed Harrison by a frame score of 1-4 to cruise into the round two. Though the highest break of the match, 98, came from Harrison in the third frame, he couldn’t clinch any other frame. Zhe however knocked in decisive breaks of 62, 45, 50 and 56 in the first, second, fourth and fifth frame respectively to seal his victory.
Lucky Vatnani (withdrew) versus Michael Wasley
Yu Delu (withdrew) versus Nick Jennings
Session Four:
Vinnie Calabrese 4-0 James Hill
First match in the evening session, which started at 7 pm, saw Vinnie Calabrese whitewashing Nick Jennings. The match was over within a blink of an eye, as Calabrese hit runs of 37, 49, 53 and 31 in all four frames respectively to register a 4-0 win over his opponent.
Though Hill in almost all the frames had frame winning chances, he lost his nerves and failed to capitalize on them.
Jak Jones 4-2 Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon
It was a highly impressive performance from the 17-year-old, Jak Jones, as he dominated the heavily favourite Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon to pull off a shocking win. The Welshman, Jones, was trailing his opponent 0-2 before he bounced back into the game, with all of his zeal, energy and strength, and won four frames straight to secure a place in the next round.
The Thailand’s professional, Thirapongpaiboon, fired superb breaks of 52 and 77 to pocket the first two frames before Jones clawed back with a 65 and 30 in the following two frames respectively to level the things at 2-2. He also took the fifth and sixth without doing anything outstanding.
Saquib Nasir 2-4 Kyren Wilson
It was a routine match which saw the favourite player securing his place in the next round. Wilson, who relatively was much more experienced, mopped up frame-winning breaks of 58 and 89 in the first two frames respectively, to gain a 0-2 lead. Nasir, who was a new player on the scene, managed in winning the following third and fourth to level the things but he was not given any more chances, as Wilson clinched the last two with a top break of 50 in the fifth.
