World Snooker Qualifying School set to commence in May – Snooker news
Once again, the opportunity for young potters to polish their skills and earn a place in the professional snooker circuit is about to start at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield in coming May.
The World Snooker Qualifying School was one of the primary initiatives taken by the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn, to promote Snooker across the globe.
The last edition of Q School in 2011 received a lot of appreciation from potters around the world and provided the snooker fans with some magnificent snooker action during its commencement. Due to last year’s event, 12 amateurs were awarded Pro Tour Cards
for the 2011-12 Snooker Season. These 12 potters were selected on the basis of their performance in all three events of Q School, as they reached the semi-final stages of these events.
The potters who made their way into the 2011-12 Professional tour include David Grace, Adam Wicheard, Andrew Norman, Robin Hull, Li Yan, Tian Pengfei, Simon Bedford, David Morris, Kurt Maflin, David Gilbert, Adam Duffy and Stuart Carrington. Once again,
the Q School entrants will be together in Sheffield to test their luck for the qualification of the pro circuit.
Speaking to the World Snooker, chairman World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), Jason Ferguson said, “Snooker is rapidly becoming a global sport, with more tournaments, more prize money and more players. We are increasing the tour from
96 to 128 players in season 2013-14, so the opportunities to qualify for the main tour have increased dramatically.”
He further added, “Q School was staged for the first time last year and we consider it the best and fairest way to give all players the chance to qualify for the tour. Rookies such as Sheffield's Adam Duffy and China's Li Yan came through the system, and
both have since climbed quickly up the world rankings.”
The last date for Q School entries is March 23, 2012 and the World Snooker has asked the potters to read the terms and conditions first that are available on their site. The entrance fee for all three Qualifying School events is £1,000 and those who qualify
for the professional tour will have many chances to earn millions of prize money in the circuit tournament.
