World Snooker announces 2012 Australian Goldfields Open qualifiers draw and format
First edition of the Australian Goldfields Open finished successfully featuring England’s Stuart Bingham as the champion. The successful finish of the Aussie event proved that the Australian soil is alluvial for major ranking snooker events as the country
has a huge population who love to watch the sport. The first event was organised at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria.
The 2011 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament received a tremendous amount of appreciation from the country’s snooker fans and had a huge gathering at the Victorian arena. Keeping the remarkable welcome that the event received, the snooker governing
body, World Snooker kept the event alive and has announced the draw and format of the upcoming 2012 Australian Goldfields Open qualifying session.
The qualifying session of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open will commence from June 12 and will conclude on June 15 featuring top 16 qualifiers who will join the World Top 16 potters. The atmosphere during the qualifying session will definitely be magical
as the game is growing with each passing day.
The qualifying session will be held, as usual, at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield comprising of four qualifying rounds where the rookies from around the world, including the new pro tour card holders, will battle for the ultimate spot in the initial
round of the event.
The first round of the qualifying session will be featuring some of the most interesting matches as the line-up has a couple of tremendous potters who performed brilliantly in the last season. The first round line-up has impressive talents like Tian Pengfei
of China along with compatriots Cao Yupeng and Chen Zhe.
The youngest potter to ever play at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, Belgium’s Luca Brecel is also placed in the first round qualifiers. Brecel showed his class in the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifiers and successfully made his way into the initial
round of the event where he was defeated at the hands of Scotland’s Stephen Maguire.
World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) qualifiers that include Martin O'Donnell, Ian Burns, Chen Zhe, Sam Baird, Daniel Wells, Jamie O'Neill, Paul Davison, Sean O'Sullivan, Joel Walker, Robbie Williams, Rod Lawler and Michael Wasley will also try their
luck this time.
