World Snooker announces PTC Event 1 draws: 2011-12 Players Tour Championships
Snooker governing body, World Snooker has announced the draws of the upcoming 2011-12 Players Tour Championships (PTC) Event 1 on Wednesday, June 15. The commencement of the first event of PTC on
Saturday, June 18 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield will start the new snooker season.
There will be plenty of exciting matches to see during the first leg of the mega snooker series. Some of the most interesting matches will feature when professionals take on the amateur players. World
number one, Mark Williams will meet young debutant, China’s Li Yan in third round of the event on Tuesday, June 21.
Some other interesting professional/amateur matches will be played between the legendary Steve Davis and James Wattana, and the young snooker sensation Judd Trump against David Gilbert. The former
people’s champion, Jimmy White will meet the Q School qualifier David Morris followed by another exciting encounter between the World Snooker champion, John Higgins and Dechawat Poomjaeng in the third round of PTC Event 1.
The PTC Event 1 was supposed to start from June 20, however, due to increase in entries for the event, the organizers decided to schedule it on June 18. Last year only 150 players took part in the
event but this year, the numbers have crossed the 200 mark.
However, World Snooker boss, Barry Hearn, is pleased with the increase in entries of the Players Tour Championships.
While speaking to the local media, Hearn said, "I'm delighted with the numbers. Last season finished with a real flourish, we had fantastic viewing figures for the Betfred.com World Championship and
the mood of the nation is clearly that snooker is on the up. It's great to see that reflected in an increased number of amateur players taking part in our events."
The entries have increased 25 percent as there are now 206 players in the first event of PTC including 93 professional players and 113 amateurs. Due to the increase in number of players, the amateur
pre-qualifying round will be played on June 18 and 19.
