World Snooker announces draw and format for 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifiers – Snooker News
Snooker governing body, World Snooker changed the status of the invitational snooker event of Wuxi Classic. The tournament has now become one of the major ranking snooker events and will commence accordingly with the new format and status. Recently World
Snooker announced the draw and format of the 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifying session.
The qualifying session of the 2012 Wuxi Classic will commence from June 5 and will conclude on Friday, June 8 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The qualifiers will feature rookies around the world who will be battling to get a place in the initial
round of the event.
The qualifying session will also include the new pro tour ticket winners who earned a place in the professional tour from World Snooker Qualifying Scholl (Q School) and were selected by their respective snooker governing bodies.
Rookies also include the winners of the 2012 European Under-21 Snooker Championship, the 2012 Asian Snooker Championship winner and the 2012 World Amateur Snooker Championship winner.
The 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifiers will be the first event of the new snooker season and many new faces will launch their run in this season. The line up of the first round of qualifying session includes 12 Q School qualifiers.
These qualifying school entrants are; Martin O'Donnell, Ian Burns, Chen Zhe, Sam Baird, Daniel Wells, Jamie O'Neill, Paul Davison, Sean O'Sullivan, Joel Walker, Robbie Williams, Rod Lawler and Michael Wasley.
Besides, for the first time in history of World Snooker, an Iranian cueman, Hossein Vafaei Ayouri will be taking part in the professional tour. He earned the tour place after performing outstandingly in the 2012 World Amateur Snooker Championship.
The International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) Under-21 World Snooker Championship winner, Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon of Thailand has also qualified for the pro tour along with the 2012 Asian Snooker Championship winner, India’s Aditya Mehta.
Mohamed Khairy of Egypt also grabbed the tour ticket for the next two years as the African Billiards and Snooker Association nominated him on the basis of his impressive form in the domestic circuit. Some emerging potters from China such as Cao Yupeng and
Tian Pengfei will also be tough contenders in the qualifying session.
