World Snooker boss Barry Hearn bringing snooker back to Bournemouth city
Chairman snooker governing body across the world, Barry Hearn is planning to make the Bournemouth International Centre a great venue for international snooker again.
The snooker boss believes the World Snooker could make a tremendous comeback to Bournemouth city after its absence for the past 12 years. The 2000 UK Championship was the last major ranking snooker event that was organised here at the Bournemouth International
Centre. Scotland’s John Higgins won the title after beating the Welsh potting Machine, Mark Williams by the score line of 10-4.
Hearn met the city’s MP Conor Burns last month and had talks with him about the return of the game. Sources revealed that the snooker chief has confirmed about bringing the sport back to the city soon. According to Daily Echo, after Hearn met the MP, he
showed signs that he will organise a snooker event in the city to revive the game.
Speaking to Daily Echo, the chairman said, “I think there is a good chance we could come back to Bournemouth. We are looking at something really quite big for next year and I think it will go down really well. I am thinking of something like the world Snooker
Shoot-Out, the one-frame tournament.”
He added, “It is a bit more lively than just a normal snooker event because it is only a one-frame match and Bournemouth might be a really good venue for it.”
Bournemouth MP, Burns spoke, “He (Hearn) knows the BIC really well. He didn’t promise he would bring an event, but he was positive and he thought the players would love it because Bournemouth is a lovely place.”
Hearn is now considering the matter seriously and will revive snooker in Bournemouth with one of the most famous snooker events, the Snooker Shootout. Snooker Shootout is one of the fastest formatted snooker events of World Snooker which will surely bring
fireworks into the cities.
The top potters across the world are also willing to resume the game in the city so that they can have some more international venues to play. Snooker’s return to the city will be a great achievement for Hearn as he will be placing another stone in the construction
of the game.
