World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn hits back on Mark Allen’s remarks: 2011 UK Championship
World Snooker chairman, Barry Hearn, has replied back on the comments made by Mark Allen after his first-round match of 2011 UK Championship at the York Barbican Centre. Hearn was quite offended and disappointed by the words used by Allen. He believes that
the disciplinary committee will deal with Allen for using abusive language.
At the conclusion of Northern Irish potter’s match of Round 1 at the Barbican Centre, he used offensive language commenting about the revised short format of 2011 UK Championship. The traditional playing format of UK Championship was changed by Hearn from
best-of-17 frames to best-of-11 frames matches.
Allen had used abusive words and Hearn was disappointed by the remarks and ignored them saying that he was too busy to notice such comments.
While speaking to local media in reply to Allen’s comments, Hearn said, “I'm disappointed. And while there's a fabulous tournament going on I'd hoped we could concentrate on that instead of the comments of just one player. I'm also disappointed by the personal
attack Mark has made on me with his comments that are slanderous and will be taking separate legal advice on the matter.”
The 63-year-old added, “(I am) far too busy to worry about silly little boys making silly little comments. I've been watching it and enjoying it and the crowds are up. People say silly things, we all say silly things, but I am happy to let the disciplinary
committee deal with it.”
Meanwhile, Allen has surged into the quarter-final stage of 2011 UK Championship, being held at the York Barbican Centre, after beating former World Snooker Championship finalist, Ali carter, by the score line of 6-2. The Antrim potter pocketed some outstanding
breaks of 78, 101, 70 and 67 to oust his opponent and make his way to the third stage.
Allen will go head-to-head against Hong Kong’s Marco Fu in the quarters. Fu reached the last-eight stage beating World Number One, Mark Selby, by 6-3. The Allen/Fu last-eight encounter will definitely be a thriller to watch out for.
