World Snooker heads to Poland for Gdynia Open: Players Tour Championship (PTC)
Snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) is keen to promote the game throughout the world and is working hard regarding their objective. So far, with the efforts of the association, the game has reached many new
borders around the globe and has become one of the most watched sports.
At the end of the previous snooker season, the World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn announced the addition of some new snooker events in the calendar. The WPBSA introduced three more Players Tour Championship (PTC) events in the Asian venue by the title of
Asian PTC which made the series the biggest event of the calendar.
This year, the PTC events will play an important role maintaining players’ ranking position. The World Snooker will be heading to Poland for 2012 Gdynia Open snooker event, one of the Euro PTC contests, where top guns of the game will be battling for the
title. The tournament will commence from October 5 to 7 at the Hala Sportowo-Widowiskowa.
A World Snooker spokesman said, “Snooker has been growing in Poland over the past decade. The success of the event in Warsaw last year showed that there are enough fans in Poland to stage professional tournaments there. We were really impressed by the enthusiasm
of the fans and we want to give them the chance to see the best players.”
He added, “The skills of the top players are amazing to watch and anyone who has never seen live snooker before should give it a try. The players are really excited to be coming to Gdynia for the first time. It will be a great atmosphere and we urge fans
to get their tickets booked.”
In the previous season, the event was won by the former World Snooker Championship winner and the 2012 Masters snooker tournament winner, Australia’s Neil Robertson after he defeated the English potter Ricky Walden by the score line of 4-2.
This year’s competition is offering total prize money of 70,000 Euros along with ranking points that will help potters improve their position in the World Snooker ranks. The clash is expected to be one of the tussling games as many big names of the game
will be present there.
