World Snooker inks five-year agreement with Perform to launch online streaming service – Snooker
World Snooker has signed a five-year agreement with Perform, a digital sports media company, as Perform is launching its new online streaming website for the people who do not have access to watch snooker tournaments in their respective areas.
The website will stream live all the snooker tournaments including the ranking events qualifiers and Players Tour Championship events in all of the areas of the world where live broadcast will not be available.
Former Chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association until July 2010, Barry Hearn, who is currently the director and controller of World Snooker Limited, is pretty delighted with the step taken as he reckons it is going to play a vital
role in the growth of the sport.
“This is a hugely significant deal in terms of getting snooker out to the furthest corners of the globe,” said World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn.
“For people who love snooker but live in territories like North America or South America where there isn't much of it on TV, they can go online and see every tournament,” Hearn added.
The new website is offering live streaming at minimal rates for the snooker fans. Within Europe the whole snooker calendar, which includes almost 30 tournaments, can be subscribed by paying only 29.99 pounds per year or it could also be subscribed on monthly
basis by paying 2.99 pounds. However, the rates outside Europe are 39.99 pounds and 3.99 pounds.
Hearn commented on the charges and said he does not think watching all 30 tournaments live in just 29.99 pounds is not worth it.
While speaking on his inclusion, Hearn remarked, “All you need is a computer, an internet connection and a credit card and you can watch top class snooker with excellent, reliable quality and commentary. The pricing is very reasonable and I believe £29.99
a year to watch up to 30 events is phenomenal value.”
It is fair to say that this new website will certainly play a very good role towards the expansion of the sport.
