World Snooker name Judd Trump, Neil Robertson as ambassadors for 2012 World Snooker Q School
Snooker governing body, World Snooker has announced the schedule for World Snooker Qualifying School entries for 2012.
World Snooker has also named the 2011 UK Championship winner, England’s Judd Trump and the former World Snooker Champion from Australia, Neil Robertson as the ambassadors for this year’s Q School competitions.
The 2012 Q School competition will be even bigger this time because a number of players will be coming to the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield to earn the Tour Card. On the other hand, the World Professional Billiard and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has
declared that 128 potters instead of 96 will be participating in the professional tour which will bring more exposure to the cuemen from around the world.
With a £1,000 entrance fee, the amateur cueists will enable themselves to take part in one of Barry Hearn’s initiatives to promote the game. Just like last year, 12 potters will make their way into the professional tour but the difference is that this year
they will be given a two-year Tour Card to participate in the professional qualifiers of next two seasons namely 2012-13 and 2013-14.
Meanwhile, Trump and Robertson are privileged to be the ambassadors. The pair’s job will be to promote the event and encourage young potters to try their luck in the Q School.
Speaking to the World Snooker, Trump said, “It's a chance to compete with the best and earn your place. You've got to enter every tournament you can, put yourself under pressure and play against better players, because that's the way to learn and improve.
My friend Adam Duffy qualified through Q School last year and now he's climbing up the rankings.”
Robertson, on the other hand, added, “Q School is such a good way to qualify for the tour, compared to what I went through having to fly back and forth from Australia. For players from overseas it's much better to come to the UK for three weeks and see if
you are good enough.”
The 2012 Q School will be starting from May 13, 2012 and the last date for entries is March 23. After the end of the competition, a Q School ranking list will be formulated where the players will be ranked on the basis of frame wins.
