World Snooker reaches United States of America: 2012 United States National Snooker Championship
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn’s efforts are paying him back and the game of snooker is touching new horizons since he took charge of the organisation as chairman in 2009. In its journey to global expansion, the game has reached United States of America
and the United States Snooker Association (USSA) is launching the 2012 United States National Snooker Championship this year.
Hearn has been working so hard to expand the boundaries of the game across the globe. In order to achieve his goal, the snooker chief not only added more events into the calendar but also introduced the game in many other countries where the game did not
have so much appreciation. Due to his countless efforts, snooker is now one of the most rapidly progressing games in the world.
The 2012 United States National Snooker Championship is just another initiative which shows that the game has reached other boundaries as well. For the first time in the history of USA Snooker, the National Snooker Championship will be streamed live in the
internet where all snooker lovers can see the matches. The live stream of the tournament is provided by Point Of View Pool Media (POV Pool).
While speaking to the local media, the Executive Director of the USSA, Alan Morris said, “This is truly a huge step forward for snooker in the United States as we invite all snooker fans in the United States and around the world to watch our National Championship
live for the first time, which we hope will raise more awareness about the sport in the United States.”
Daniel Busch, on the other hand, spoke, “By creating video brackets and by taking short interviews with players and organizers, which I will upload to my YouTube Channel in ‘real time’.”
Launch of such snooker events in USA is a good gesture which will definitely help the USSA to place themselves in one of the biggest snooker nations. After a successful launch of this snooker tournament, World Snooker might consider organising a major or
minor ranking snooker event in USA in future. It will be interesting to see how the sport of snooker manages to make some in-roads in the USA and build a solid fan following in the future.
