World Snooker releases 2012 World Snooker Championship draw and format – Snooker news
Snooker governing body, World Snooker has announced the draws and format of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The draws and format was released on their site along with the dates of first round events.
World Snooker Championship is the most prestigious event of the game and playing inside the Crucible Theatre, the official venue for the event, is a dream of every potter. All potters across the globe struggle to qualify for this championship. The World
Championship is one of the Triple Crowns of snooker after the Masters and the UK Championship.
All top guns of snooker will be present there to test their luck and skills. The seeding list for the Crucible event was revised after the finish of 2012 Welsh Open. The World Top 16 players have been seeded in the draw line up according to this revised
seeding list. They will be joined by 16 qualifiers who will make their way into the draw after winning through the championship’s qualifying session.
The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield will feature the likes of reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins, former three-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, the world number one Mark Selby, the 2011 UK Championship winner Judd Trump,
the 2012 Welsh Open winner Ding Junhui, the former World Snooker Champion Mark Williams, the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner Stuart Bingham and the former World Snooker Champion, Australia’s Neil Robertson in the initial round.
Speaking to the World Snooker on the occasion of the draw announcement, World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said, “The Betfred.com World Championship is the absolute pinnacle of our sport. It's 17 days of blood, sweat and tears, and the man who lifts that
trophy at the end of it will cherish the memory forever.”
He added, “The line up of 16 seeds is unbelievably strong. John Higgins won his fourth World title last year and he's aiming to become the first player to win back-to-back at the Crucible since Stephen Hendry in 1996. There are so many great players now
that he faces a massive test.”
The tournament will commence on April 21 and will conclude on May 7, 2012 while the qualifying session of the championship will start from April 5 to 15 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
