World Tour debutant side, Team Orica-GreenEdge all set for the UCI Road World Championships
Australian side, Team Orica-GreenEdge announces its final squad of six men for the team’s World’s Time Trial event in Limburg, Holland.
Matt White of Team GreenEdge is confident with the team selection and noted that the six-man squad of Sebastian Langeveld, Jens Mouris, Cameron Meyer, Luke Durbridge, Sam Bewley and Svein Tuft forms the best team for the coming event.
“It’s been a very long season for everyone, and it’s very close to the Vuelta to be using guys for a team time trial,” he told Cyclingnews.
“Some guys are coming back from Canada and some have stopped their seasons. It’s the same for every team but I’m very happy with the group that we’ve got and we’ll be very competitive on Sunday”.
“We had some people do recon a couple of months ago so we’ve seen the video and we’re going go up there on Thursday. It’s not a super technical course, it’s fast and flowing with a couple of climbs”.
The Australian is marking its debut at the top level of sport and has been really impressive throughout the season.
It currently holds the sixth overall position after the UCI World Tour Team’s rankings with 780 UCI points to its credit.
Major contributions came through the strong legs of Simon Gerrans (390 UCI points), Michael Albasini (183 UCI points), Matthew Goss (114 UCI points), Luke Durbridge (56 UCI points) and Svein Tuft (37 UCI points).
Team Sky is leading the category with 1556 points with Team Katusha ( 1073 points), Team Liquigas-Cannondale (1048 points), Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step (866 points) and Team Movistar (831 points) occupying the next four positions.
White briefed that he will not settle for anything less than a podium spot at the World Championships. However, he is aware of the fact that his team will face tough competition from several different teams across the globe.
Matt has noted that Team Sky, Team Rabobank and Team BMC, all looks quite strong on paper but he is positive that his six-man squad is pretty much capable of restricting any side.
The 53.2 kilometre, Team Time Trial event is scheduled on September 16, 2012 between Sittard-Geleen to Valkenburg aan de Geul.
