Do you know what sides Belarus and Ukraine were on during the second world war? (allies, neutral, axis)

  1. Ukraine fought for both the Soviets and the Germans. It did not want to be part of the axis. It did not want to be part of the Soviet Union. But mainly the Ukraine wanted to be its' own independent country. Sadly, this didn't happen. The Ukraine was an active front for 4 years and suffered the greatest percentage loss of life of any country in the war. 1 in 6 Ukrainians died during WW2.  


  2. Belarus was in most part a former portion of Poland and a smaller part the Soviet Union.  The Ukranine was a part of the Soviet Union.

    As to the first poster - both of these political entities fought for both the Soviets and the Germans.  The Belos were mainly pro-Soviet and th Ukes were evenly divided.

  3. At the time, both Byelorussia (now Belarus) and Ukraine were parts of the Soviet Union, which fought against Germany after the German invasion.
