Question:

World War II and Cold War Books?

I am interested in learning more about these two wars. I know only what I've learned in school, and I've even forgotten much of that.

I am looking for books that I can read to learn about them. I would prefer a book with more facts and history to one of those books about a survivor's experience.

I am looking to learn more about the Americans, Germans, Russians, and other countries involved, so I would prefer books from different points of view.

  1. World War 2- 4139 Strange and Fascinating Facts

Muscollinni and the Tragic Women in His Life

If you can find the set of them try the Time Magazine books, there's a whole series about them.

There's books out there about the WAAC's and the WAVES

The Canteen Spirit-  tells the story about the North Platte, Nebraska canteen during World War 2 and how it served over 6 million soldiers-very good book about the homefront during the war.

  2. I'd recommend "There's a War To Be Won", by Geoffrey Perret.  Its about the US Army, from the prewar period, when it was the 21st largest in the world (just below Bulgaria), to the end of the war, when there were eight million soldiers fighting a global war.  Should be in any decent public library.

  3. so so many and not all are great. don't go out and get some random one.. if you are interested in actually studying then you should ask a history teacher for a recommendation. my favourite book was actually a text book.

survivor experience books are lame but i actually did like 'mila 18' (fictional-novel by leon uris)... one of my favourites.

read about stuff on wikipedia.. its got alot.
