Ok, so I've chosen to do an essay on WWII and don't really know much about it. Here are the points I need to make:

when and why did the united states enter the war?

when and how did the war end?

if you have any safe, great reference sites, that will be great, too!

  1. I would narrow it a little bit more if I were you...  WWII Is a really REALLY broad subject, and unless you want to kill your teacher under the weight of your report, you'll probably need to choose either one question or the other.  People do doctorate's dissertations on these things for a reason. *wink*

That being said, there are many wonderful books and articles about the time period, as well as many very reliable websites.  Here are some of my faves from when I had to do a report on WWII:

(check out the lesson plans, they can give you really good topics to research, important tidbits, and clues about which resources you need to look for)

  2. The United States officially entered the war on December 8, 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. After the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945 , the Japanese arranged for their surrender which was signed on the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945.

  3. you clearly didn't ask for a teachers opinion and i don't think it has anything to do with him. keep using the site. anyway, pearl harbor for USA and Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the ending. good luck!

  4. Instead of expecting other people to do your homework for you, you should either do a Google search or visit your local library.  It's the weekend; you have plenty of time to get this done.  Being lazy and trying to convince other people to do your work for you will get you nowhere in life.  Stop trying to cheat on this essay and be an honest student.  Also, by doing your own work, you'll actually learn something and be a better person for it.

  5. Try Wikipedia--it has a ton of info, but you might need a good attention span to read and comprehend it all.

  6. Notlost has provided you with the answer. You MUST do this work yourself or you will learn nothing. You will retain nothing which will not serve you well when exams roll around.

It is very easy to find the basic facts you've asked for at any of 1,000+ websites.

I'd Google first, narrow it down to an area you have an interest in, keep narrowing - then go to that area you're going to concentrate on.

As usual - I strongly suggest the Library. The reference librarians are a font of information and in this way you won't be cheating.

How do you not know the date that will "live in infamy?"

Thank you for being polite - very refreshing. Try putting 8 December 1941 into one of the sites Lin suggested. You'll be deluged. You can do the same with VE Day and VJ Day - although the actual surrender dates vary. Give it a shot. Good luck.

  7. I don't have a great site, but I can recommend that you rent and watch the WWII film "Tora Tora Tora". It describes in very good detail exactly what happened to cause us to declare war on Japan.
