World War II on the English south coast?

Question

I'm currently writing a song called 'Selsey Bill' (as in the place) and I'm looking for events of World War II that occured near there to put in the lyrics. Were there airfields there? Was it on the receiving end to any bombing raids? Did people return from Dunkirk there or set off on D-day from there? Anything else I've missed? The sort of places I am thinking off are Southampton, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Bournemouth, Brighton- places around that area. Help will be much appreciated.

I think the allied forces practised the D Day landings there. Unfortunately quite a few died in a sinking I think! Soz memory shot!

Bracklesham Bay was used for D-Day landing practice "Operation Fabius".

RAF Tangmere, now a museum is nearby

Portsmouth, a little further away was a principal Royal Navy base and a major point of embarkation for "Overlord"
