World XI's Pakistan tour postponed for second time – Cricket News Update
Plans to host a World XI team in Pakistan for a short tour involving two T20 matches, in an attempt to revive international cricket in Pakistan, have been postponed for the second time this year, owing to the unavailability of Pakistani players.
The event, organised by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Syed-Mohammad-Ali-c92313 Shah, was initially due to take place in May this year, before the organising committee had a falling out with the Pakistan Cricket Board. The PCB refused to give permission to the national players for participation in the event, accusing Dr. Shah for having failed to seek clearance from the board.
However, a meeting between the two parties led to a patch-up, after which the board not only granted permission for the event, but also offered Dr. Shah assistance by making players from the national team available for the event.
The World XI tour was then scheduled to take place on August 5 and 6, with 2 T20 matches due to be played at the National Stadium in Karachi. However, owing to the unavailability of Pakistani players, who will be occupied with a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 this September, the event has been postponed yet again, this time to October.
“We want the full Pakistan team to play these two games, which are very important for Pakistan cricket. And the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has informed us that this can only be possible after the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Said-Ahmed-Shah-c87941.
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380 from the PCB called me up and informed me that if we went ahead with the matches as planned on August 5 and 6, some players might not be available to play the two matches,” he added.
The World XI team comprises players from various countries such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Nel-c44253 to name a few.
The event is an attempt to reinstate Pakistan’s credibility as a venue for international sporting events, following the 2009 terrorist attacks on the touring Sri Lankan team, which put an end to any foreign tours in Pakistan.
The PCB, suffering financial shortages owing to the need to host “home” series at neutral venues such as the UAE, has been eager to bring cricket, and a major source of revenue, back to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. However, whether foreign players agree to tour the country, keeping the precarious security situation in view, remains to be seen.
