World eagerly waits for a clash of titans in 2012 London Olympic – Badminton Feature
The badminton giants, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei are supposed to lock horns in title match of the London Olympics and the badminton world is eagerly waiting for this expected clash of the titans in the mega event.
Though, London event will see all the world class shuttlers Chen Long, Peter Hoeg Gade, Taufik Hidayat and Lee Hyun Il also but the arch rivals, Lin Dan and Chong Wei, stand brighter chance to be the finalists in the prestigious event.
The World and Olympic Champion Lin Dan stamped Chong Wei in the final match of previous edition of the Olympics in Beijing.
In the coming edition of the mega Olympics this clash of the titans is surely going to be the memorable tussle as the Malaysian maestro will be looking for an avenging victory.
Both badminton kings have a long history of rivalry as they battled 28 times out of which only nine tussles remained in Chong Wei’s favour but in this season they stand at same level with one win each.
In Victor Korea Open 2012, the World Number one Chong Wei proved his authority in the final match while in their second meeting of the season he conceded walkover due to shoulder injury and thwarted his record bid in All England Open.
Now the Malaysia’s biggest hope in Olympics, Chong Wei will be looking to stay away from injuries in the next couple of months as his biggest challenger has decided to participate in selected events only to avoid overstraining before the mega event.
It is really a tough task for Chong Wei to lift the burden of expectations of a badminton-mad nation as still he is not back in his prime physical fitness but critics believe he should be focusing on his technical and tactical strength rather than the physical
one.
The badminton gurus also believe that he should not be playing too many matches as he may suffer injuries and this definitely will reduce his chances against the Chinese badminton ace Lin Dan who can be called "Ironman" for his invincible mental and physical
fitness.
The badminton pundits state that the World Number two player literally has nerves of steel and so intensive is the impact of his strong personality that he wins half of the battle even before entering the court.
The Chinese has proved his mettle in almost every esteemed event of the badminton world.
"Super" Dan, as he is called by his fans, has a clear psychological edge over his arch rival as he became the first player ever to complete in the "Super Grand Slam" by winning all nine major crowns of the game including Olympic Games, World Cup, World Championships,
Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, Asian Games, Asia Championships and last but not the least All England Open which he has won for record fifth time this year against the defending Champion Chong Wei.
They expectedly do not have any scheduled meeting before the mega London Olympics which may be one of the last tussles between these greats of all times as they are thinking to bid farewell to arena after the mega event.
Though, Lin Dan will carry the self-confidence which he earned through a long streak of success against Chong Wei but only the time will tell how the wind blows and in whose favour.
