World leader declares environmentalism a threat to freedom?

Has anyone read the quote in the Washington Post from Czech President Valclav Klaus? He said, "The largest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity is no longer socialism. It is, instead, the ambitious, arrogant, unscrupulous ideology of environmentalism."

Sounds about right to me... your thoughts...

i have to agree with Bernie it is a natural phenomenon as i read the great Lemuria continent which the tamil civilization began (kumari kandam) was lost its self to the ocean.as we know that time there were no industries to pollute the environment.

but are we speeding the process by destroying the forest and polluting the environment.its something like (the distruction process) it was manual mode few hundred years ago and now its in auto mode.

Well he is stupid isn't he. Global warming is killing our planet and we need to do something about it now before it's too late.

I just remember that we cannot believe everything we hear or read especially in the news these days. Media is so bent on sensationalism and I for one do not trust it anymore.

The catch phrase there is "market economy and prosperity". Maybe Klause never heard of the  saying "They killed the goose that laid the golden egg".

Environmentalism is all about conserving and saving our resources so that future generations have a chance. The concepts of "freedom","democracy",  "market economy", "prosperity" will not exist if we do not take care of the environment. The only concept which will exist will be "competition" for the meager resources which are left. Once all the resources are gone, our species will become extinct. Can a world without people have "freedom" or "democracy"?

That's a great quote and he's right!  Not that I think socialism is the greatest threat, but I think many of the "-isms" are including communism which turned out to be another fraud that ended up hurting the people, not helping them!

c_tags: How is wasting food crops for ethanol conserving anything?  Isn't that wasting water, land, and food that could be feeding the hungry and bringing food prices down where they belong?  They can make 100 MPGs cars or bring back electric cars that worked really well--they don't have to divert surplus food crops for ethanol and make us pay $10 for gas!  Why don't environmentalists question this??
