World number one Luke Donald snatches back the money leader title on PGA: Highlights Part 1
World number one Luke Donald is riding on perhaps what can be rightly termed as the zenith of his career and is now brimming with such unprecedented confidence that he can actually predict a victory in an event. He landed at the Disney's Magnolia & Palm
Courses · Lake Buena Vista, Florida for the last of the Fall Series events, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, and vowed to take down the title in order to resurface as the money leader on the PGA Tour, and he exactly did what he said.
World number one on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) is now also the money leader on both sides of the Atlantic. He is leading the Race to Dubai on the European Tour as well as the FedExCup points table on the PGA Tour. If the Englishman is able to
maintain the status-quo till the end of the current season, he will be the first player in the history to summit both lists at the end of the year.
Starting off the final round poised at 14th on the leaderboard, Donald overcame a deficit of five shots to take out the reigning leader Justin Leonard by two shots. Donald opened up with consecutive birdies on the two opening holes but succumbed
to a bogey at par-four, 5th, recovered to card two more birdies before again dropping a shot at par-five, 8th. The Englishman, who is known for his expertise in avoiding bogeys, was not really happy with his performance till the time
he made the turn.
“It was kind of do or die. Obviously it wasn't looking great after the 8th hole, but I knew I was going to get on to a run.” said Donald.
But his count for bogeys for the day was over soon as he made the turn. Starting from 10th, the Englishman wreaked havoc, carding six straight birdies to soar on the leaderboard. He finished the last three holes even-par to settle for a final
round score of eight-under, 64 to lift the second title on the tour for the current season.
“It's hard to put into words. You know, obviously I came here and I told you guys on Wednesday that the goal was to win.” He added. “I think I've answered everyone's questions. You know, obviously coming into this week I felt like Webb was probably favorite,
you know, based on he was ahead of me on the Money List and he was ahead of, e wins this year.”
Donald’s nemesis, Webb Simpson, who was the money leader before the weekend, still managed to pull in a strong finish, a joint sixth, carding a final round of three-under, 69. Donald has now regained the summit on the money list with total earnings of $6,683,214
for the year in his 19 appearances.
