World number two Carolina Wozniacki wins the Rogers Cup in Montreal
Danish tennis star Carolina Wozniacki has successfully won the Rogers Cup title which was held in Montreal, Canada. After winning the tournament Wozniacki will now enter into the bigger stage of upcoming Grand Slam in a conquering manner, which will start from the 30th of the August.
The final match of the tournament was between the current number two Carolina Wozniacki and Russian tennis ace Vera Zvonareva. It was a not a very tough match for the Danish veteran because her rival seemed a little out of touch during the match and was making unforced errors throughout the match. It was a pretty convincing victory for Wozniacki as she grabbed the marvellous success from Zvonareva by 6-3 6-2.
The match came out to be not very interesting against the fans expectations. Both the players started the match with Luke-warm efforts and made equal amount of errors. But it was the world number two Wozniacki who showed her class and brilliant form in the second set of the match. In the first set both the players dropped and missed many serve points and the veteran rivals seemed as they were tired of excessive play. But it was the tennis sensation from Denmark who came stronger and better in the second set and converted break point at different crucial stages of the match. Wozniacki who thrashed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semi-final was more successful in showing her matchless talent in the match rather than her veteran Russian opponent Vera Zvonareva. While talking about her performance in the match the 20-years-old told the media that it was a hard day for her as she was not mentally prepared for the match because of her tough routine. Later she said that she has not been able to play from last two days which made her approach slightly laid back during the match. Despite clutching a convincing victory the tennis veteran seemed a little uncomfortable with her performance. While talking about her performance and feelings after winning the title Wozniacki said that winning a match is always good and so far she is feeling pretty happy about her efforts. She added that she is very happy with the way everything came out to be as she has successfully won the crucial two matches of the event.
Now her focus is towards the US Open, which will start from the end of this month. The 20-years-old was last time hammered in the final of US Open by the Belgian ace Kim Clijsters last year but this time she seems very confident to grab the Grand Slam title in a victorious way. Wozniacki will now move to participate in the final warm up tournament for the major US Grand Slam. The 20-year-old Wozniacki is very well aware of the fact that this time is probably a very lucky time for her to win the US Open, as her veteran rival and world number one American, Serena Williams is not taking part in the event. Wozniacki is hopeful and working hard to lift her first Grand Slam title in the absence of the world number one.
Coming back to the final match of the Rogers Cup Montreal the Russian tennis ace Vera Zvonareva, despite losing her game, she is still hopeful of getting a good start in the upcoming tournament. No doubt she has the ability to outclass any stronger opponent but this might be the last chance for her to improve her decelerating playing form as the bigger tournament is just around the corner. It is to be remembered that the Russian tennis sensation Zvonareva made her way to the finals of the Rogers Cup after Victoria Azarenka got retirement from the match at 7-6 (8-6) 1-0.
Talented players like Zvonareva and Azarenka should now put their focus to regain their mental and physical fitness to compete in the Grand Slams because the real test is yet to come.
