A museum in brisbane, australia closed down recently and I came to buy a WW2 american flag in the auction. I am australian and wondering if I should contact some american museums if it would be of use to them. I just think it has a lot of historial significance, and would be better off in its country of origin than here...

any thoughts...?

  1. It's probably not worth much unless you know its specific history, such as where it was flown, by what/who and when.   If it was flown during a specific battle by a famous ship... and you can prove it, then yes it may have some value.   It might have some meaning to your own country more than here depending on its documented past.

If it's just an interesting 48 star USA flag without a documented history, then it's likely not worth that much.   There are a lot of those flags still around.

If your flag is the latter, then I would store it away or sell it on ebay.

    Hope this is helpful.

  2. I don't think that it'd really be worth anything unless it had been anywhere or seen anything.

There are millions of flags, but only a few flags that have seen anything.

  3. yea

  4. Sounds likes its going to be a Navy Flag. I would write to Pearl harbor, as they have the largest museum of WW2 ships and the like.

Its nice to see that you are thoughtfull like this.

  5. Depending on the flag and why it was in a museum to begin with, the flag may or may not have a lot of historical significance.  It is nice of you to be so thoughtful, though.

Do you have any paperwork to go with the flag?

  6. A 48 star flag isn't worth much, unless it is known to have flown at a particular time or on a particularly important ship.
