  1. What the h**l will Iraq do? They dont even have their own country under control nevermind their military.

  2. This war between Russia and their former Soviet Republic of Georgia is none of our business.  The CNN report said that Georgia attacked South Ossetia first, calling it a "breakaway province."  Russia, who already has peacekeeping troops in South Ossetia, claims to be defending them from Georgian imperialism.  If the people of South Ossetia want independence, they're apparently going to have to fight for it.  Good for them.  They've been operating independently since the 1990's anyway.

It kind of makes me wonder, though, what the American reaction is going to be.  Georgia is the 3rd biggest contributor of troops to the Iraq war (on the American side, at least,) with a couple of thousand troops.  It's highly unlikely that Russia will ask Iraq for assistance because, one, they certainly don't need Iraq's help, and two, Iraq sort of has their hands full with an occupation and a civil war.  As far as Russia seeking the assistance of Islamic militants, don't forget that the Soviets had a costly, terrible war against them in Afghanistan in the 80's, which they lost.  It weighs on the Russian conscience the way Vietnam does in America.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Georgia appeal to the United States for assistance.  But I really don't think we can openly aid a nation militarily against Russia.  For one, we just put to bed decades of escalation with  Russia, and I don't think even our current administration would be keen about reopening that wound.  Second, South Ossetia, as well as Abkhazia, are small, independent states, struggling for their own soverignty, much in the way East Timor achieved independence a few years ago.  We should be supporting this kind of thing.

However, Georgia is 83 percent Orthodox Christian, and neighbors Islamic Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as being adjacent to Iran.  A stronger US ally in that region would decidedly benefit our own imperalistic desires.  And the 2,000 Georgian soldiers in Iraq are being recalled as you read this, to fight the Russians, putting further responsibility on American and British boys and girls.

It would be in America's best interest to see this situation resolved quickly and quietly.  While I don't think America will go so far as to deploy boots on the ground in the Caucasus, I feel it's somewhat likely that we'll offer some kind of support: use of our satellites or other logistics equipment, or a quiet infusion of cash.

More likely, we'll see a long, protracted effort by the UN, led by US diplomats, to secure peace in an area that we aren't really in a position to police ourselves, so that we can continue our own imperialist conquests without having to tangle with the Russians more than we have to.

    At least, I hope so.

  3. is this bad for us no.. could this get bad for us yes

  4. How can that happen if Obama says he can talk anybody out of anything? I guess this is Bush's fault too?

  5. Go and check your gas mask and make sure the door to the bomb shelter is oil up. :)

Osetia just want to be independent. But, it's a very small territory. There will be some political tension and UNFORTUNATELY some people will die for nothing (except the Osetians fighting for their freedom). :(

  6. To Awnser this,  It could be.  Biblically and Scientifically the war will start in that geographic area.  The Middle East will then get involved.  Then you have that nutcase Chavez which is a Russian Ally.  So is Cuba.  Yep we are getting closer to 2012 folks get READYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Well that is difficult to say. The United States certainly has ties to Georgia. However, I dont think Medvedev is stupid enough to start a war with America and NATO. I believe they are trying to take advantage of us being held up in Iraq/Afghanistan.

IF the United States and NATO come to Georgia's aid hopefully Russia backs down.

As for the alliance of Russia and Iraq that is hazy too. In the last 15 years Russia and Iran have become fairly good allies cooperating on scientific and military research. So, seeing as how Iraq and Iran are arch enemies Russia might not want to back them and destroy a relationship with Iran.

Anyway, lets this doesn't go further than it already has although i dont see how that possible

  8. No, World War 3 is classified about a Nuclear Holocaust.

  9. Yes, hide under your bed.
