World’s top 3 golfers paired together at the Cadillac Championship at Doral Miami
Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood will be playing the Cadillac Championship in the same group in Doral Miami.
This mega event is staged by the World Golf Championships at the amazing Floridian site of the TPC Blue Monster and features all the top-ranked players in the field.
They will perform for the $8,500,000 purse, out of which $1,400,000 is the winning share.
The top-24 players are bonded in a group of three according to their rankings. World’s current top three players are grouped together for the two initial rounds, starting from March 08.
McIlroy just claimed the world No. 1 spot from Donald after winning the Honda Classic and Westwood is on the third position.
Hence, the Floridian spectators and their worldwide fans will enjoy the battle among them.
"It's great to get to this position and obviously I'd love to stay here for as long as possible," said McIlroy, the current world no. 1.
He added, "I just need to concentrate on playing good golf, trying to win tournaments, and if I can do that, then the position I'm at in the world rankings will hopefully take care of itself".
Donald faced the defeat after the 40th consecutive week by the young Irish star. The reason includes his early exit from the Accenture Match Play Championship in the last month and McIlroy’s impressive performances at most of the tournaments.
"It reminded me a little bit of when I got to No. 1," Donald said. "Rory is playing extremely well, and he's the guy with the most confidence right now".
Similarly, Westwood is also at his best in the current season. He played two events at the PGA and secured the 4th position at both the Northern Trust Open and Accenture Match Play Championship.
"It's good to be bunched in that group," Westwood said. "It means you're maintaining your ranking, you're still in the top three".
The tournament is at new highs of popularity, as it will be displaying the most competitive match play between McIlroy, Donald and Westwood. These three are the top-ranked players and belong to Europe.
The first two consecutive rounds will attract a huge number of spectators on the course and a tough, competitive and appealing battle is expected between these three.
