Worn out Novak Djokovic primed for one last battle before the end – Tennis News
Physically worn out number one player in the world, Novak Djokovic, is looking to fight the one last battle before the end. He might not look fresh and all set to go at this stage of the season but the aggression and willpower
to give it all before going on a long weekend is definitely there. He commenced the tournament with a tight win against the eighth ranked Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, on Monday.
In a press conference at the O2 arena in London, Djokovic stated “I want to give my best and at this moment I’m trying to be as optimistic as possible. It’s expected to not always on your top form and especially at this time of
year the effects of the long season can influence you physically and mentally also, but as I said, this is a very important tournament. I definitely want to do well, find the mental and physical strength to perform my best and we’ll see if that best will be
good enough.”
On achieving the number one status in the world, Djokovic said, “It means a lot, for all of us from our team, we are very proud of what we’ve achieved in 2012.” He confessed the fact that the competition was extremely difficult
this year and it wasn’t easy at all for him to retain the number one tag at the end of the year but he did went through tough times and gathered points to make sure that he managed to end another season at the top of the rankings list. This will help the Serb
to boost confidence for the coming years that will feature his marvellous tennis skills.
World number three, Andy Murray, who also registered a win against the sixth ranked Czech, Tomas Berdych, on the opening day of the ATP Tour Finals on Monday. He bounced back a set down to trash the Czech star 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. He
will face the primed Djokovic on the eve of Tuesday at his home soil. The crowd that lifted his confidence to make a comeback against Berdych will be there for him again when he will step in the arena to lock horns with the top player in the world. It will
be interesting to witness how the two of the best player in the world of tennis will take up the challenge. There is no doubt that tennis fanatics are up for some enthralling play on Tuesday night.
