I just recieved my debit card today from Lloyds TSB. I signed up to PayPal to pay for some spares for my RC Helicopter i crashed the other day...

It asked for my branch society address, I entered the one on my letter at the very bottom i got with the card, but that branch address is in London and i live nowhere near there, i cant find out the branch address for my bank i signed up in, only now i think its too late to change it because they are sending me a bank statement so i can verify my paypal account...

People who have done this will know what i mean.

Does it matter that i put Lloyds Branch address for london instead of the one i signed up in?

Any help is much appreciated!

  1. I don't think that is right cause pay pal will make 2 deposits of under a pound to make sure the account is valid..you gotta give them the address of your branch, it sound to me as if you have given them the address of the head office.

  2. HI there

Yes it does matter, you have to have the same billing address on both paypal and your bank, they both must tallly otherwise paypal will not let you transfer the money across. The fact that you have got a different branch of your bank should not matter

  3. Why don't you give Lloyds a call and explain the situation? They should be able to tell you which branch number is used in electronic transactions - the one on your card or the one you for the branch you signed up in.

Personally though, I think you'll be ok. The key details that you need to make a debit card payment are the sort code and account number (and sometimes the security code on the back of the card). These are enough to identify your unique bank account.

The branch society address they asked for is (I'm pretty sure) not used to identify the account to debit the money from, but more for security and admin purposes.

You'll be fine mate! Worst case: you might need to modify the account you entered into PayPal and have to wait a little longer for the helicopter spares!

  4. I didn't have to verify my paypal account with my branch - I always thought it happens automatically.

Anyway - you should have the bank address at the top of any paperwork that you got with it. At the least there should be a telephone number for you to get in touch with them. Did you get anything with your new account number and sort code on it? I think you can change it, if not now, then later on. Your name and account will be on their system, no matter where the branch is.

  5. PayPal don't send a statement; they debit odd amounts like 17p from your account and then ask you to tell them how much they took. That's what they mean. The statement is the one sent out by your bank..

  6. in my view it is better to keep your paypal separate.  I just leave some money in Paypal to pay for things

  7. I am not in the U.K. but I doubt very much that it matters.

On my credit union cheques the address is the head office not my branch. As long as they have the bank 'transit number'

which would include the branch number you will be ok. The

bank 'transit' number is part of your debit card number so you

have given it to them. Cheers!
