I have been through many hurricane's in my lifetime, but with new's media focused on the big easy, I am having trouble finding out what I should expect. Ie: possible wind gust range's? Rain amount's ect.

I live about 30 min north of baton rouge.

Can you offer any help?

  1. I'm facing the same problem. I live in Baton Rouge and I really want to know what to expect. Gov. Jindal came on about 2 hours ago and said that we could expect tropical storm force winds, down trees and powerlines, and no electricity for at least a week. I'm worried because they aren't really telling the other SE parishes what to expect. I understand that New Orleans is the major focus but there are other people who need to know! On my local station (WAFB) they said the same which is to expect tropical storm force winds of about 40 mph with gusts up to possibly 90 mph. That's all I know I hope I helped at least a little! =] x

  2. youll prob get a little wind and rain. a lot of people are evacuating there so it shouldnt be so bad.

  3. I grew up in Gonzales & went through many hurricanes.  You will have strong winds & lots of rain, but overall it will be like a bad thunderstorm.  Be prepared to lose power for several hours in the event of downed trees in the area.  You should be safe just use common sense and continue to watch (or listen in the event of a power outage) the news stations for weather warnings such as tornadoes.

You will be fine.  Baton Rouge is far enough inland not to get the brunt of the storm.
