Question:

Worried about High school ?

I'm starting high school this fall and am going for a school where I knew everyone and everyone knew me. I was pretty much a big fish in a little pond (which I LOVED) having many amazing opportunities and felt really happy.

I am nervous about my new school because:

A) Its a new place and I HATE change

B) It's a huge high school

C) All my friends (and everyone I know) is going to a different school (the one in our neighbourhood where everyone goes. Its much smaller) while I am off to an Arts high school.

and

D) The art I am in is Literary Arts, which I don’t even like.

All this adds to the scary high school experience so I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on how to, you know...SURVIVE.

Thanks so much!

  1. try to get a map before the first day of school. know where the wings are [english wing, math hallway...ect.]

if you get the list of class rooms then map out where you are going :) so you'll know the best routes to take.

buy your basic school supplies beforehand [a binder, folder, notebook/paper,pens,pencils,backpack] before hand that way all you'll have to buy after the first day is the necessities for each class.

don't worry about being harassed by upperclassman on the first day. i was a freshman last year and nothing happened to me OR anyone i knew.

just remember: you were in middle school at one time with the juniors and sophmores (when you were in 6th grade!) and the seniors really keep to themselves. dont be nervous-highschool is a time to have fun and be with your friends!

[[there's a really good book called: SLEEPING FRESHMAN NEVER LIE by david lubar]] try it. its good :)

  2. Be open to the experience and embrace the change.  You may end up loving the new place, making friends that are even closer, and finding something about the Literary Arts that speaks to you.

Don't make up your mind just yet.

  3. Im going into highschool this year also and this is the type of advice my older sister told me :

Just be you! Whoever you are is who you should show. If you don't want to be all of those things, then do it. There are going to be people who don't like you along the way, but who cares? There's no way you can make everyone like you. Just be yourself and you should be friends with people who accept that. And do well every single year in high school. People think that you can just chill the first few years just because junior year is the most important, but it all just builds up.

But just keep in mind, those supposedly popular people in the year groups above you who might give you a hard time and make out that thier the S**t have forgotten that they are about to enter the real world.

Don't forget that its ok to make your own style , Highschool is more accepting than middle school! Dont Be A Poser!!

    Thank , hope this helps

    Wish me luck too!

Treat everyone well, school is a time no one forgets and you never know who you may have to deal with later in life...

And - Don't be scared of the pressure of the Change , Embrace it!!
