Question:

Worried about food poisoning....help!

I had made a cake last Friday with whipped frosting. I have had it in a pan with a lid on it, but I have not refrigerated it. I never thought to refrigerate the cake because my mother used to make cakes with the same frosting and she never put any cakes in the fridge. My family would eat on the cakes for a week or so and we never got sick.

My kitchen is kept very cool, but yesterday my air conditioning was messed up. It was very hot in the house...probably about 89 degrees. I wasn't thinking about the cake and how that would affect it and I ate some today. The cake looked and smelled fine.

Could this give me food poisoning? I know the frosting jar said to keep cakes in a cool place, so now I'm a bit worried.

  1. Next time you'll know better from experience my friend.  However..if you haven't felt queasy or feeling uncomfortable..then you'll be okay

  2. you're cake is fine.  Technically, if you have to refrigerate a food item, you have to keep it below 40 degrees F.  Enjoy your cake!

  3. no its fine..... if it was made with whipped cream frosting, it would've spoiled.... the jar frosting can be left out in the cupboard.....

  4. I would not worry about it!!!  IT IS FINE..

  5. No, thats jsut so it doesnt taste nasty and or melt

  6. If you don't feel sick or anything than you are fine. Just refrigerate it next time. Especially if there is dairy in it.
