  1. If you are just going to Sharm then you don't need to worry. It is not proper Egypt but just a westernised tourist resort like Benidorm.

If however you are going to places like Cairo or Luxor then you should dress modestly to avoid causing offence

  2. In Sharm you'll be fine.Everyone wears the usual touristy stuff. In Cairo cover your shoulders, shorts are o.k. If wearing a skirt itshould be a modest length.Luxor is touristy but out on the streets don't wear say shorts and bikini top like you might see in Spain.Wear a proper T shirt or top. You'll be fine, particularly in Sharm.Enjoy.

  3. reasearch on google then....not hard.....

  4. just dont walk naked in the street..

  5. hahaha

  6. Relax you can wear what you like Egyptians are used to seeing tourists every day wearing what they want.  You are right Sharm is very very touristy and you will find many many women wearing very short skirts and shorts tiny tops etc.  However if you don't want attention then it is better to cover up not from head to toe but a little.

At the hotel and beach you can wear a bikini shorts etc.  When you go out onto the streets or go shopping wear something like a t-shirt and something that covers you legs to around the knee area and that's the same at night time just cover your back and stomach and something that is not to low cut then trousers, shorts, skirts but i would say something around the knee area.  Men should cover their upper half whilst shopping or in the streets.

This is not a must but optional this way you will gain more respect and you won't receive unwanted attention.

Enjoy your holiday don't worry about it you will get a feel when you are over there and you will see what others are wearing.  Remember to drink bottled water and keep hydrated and wear plenty of sun cream it is very hot for the next 3 months.

I am younger than you have blonde hair and travel alone to Egypt a lot and i wear t-shirts but cover all my legs when out and about i never have any problem at all.  I see others wearing skirts they don't have a problem it's only when you can see their bum cheeks hanging out and a tiny piece of cloth covering their assests they start to recieve attention.

  7. u can dress what u want in sharm el sheihk  or hurgada as they r touristic cities but when u r in cairo , giza , alex,....u shouldn't wear short dresses or skirts or show all of ur arms or shoulder.

  8. jst avoid skirts its k over there .............its rumors tht this n that is not allowed..........its kwel being ther .........i hav been thr and i stay in canada.....................

  9. I was in Sharm El Sheihk in December of 2002.  You are so right about not wearing dresses, showing your arms or shoulders, or being flashy.  Wear darker clothing, nothing flashy.  If you see fit to do so, cover your head, too.  Americans that go there are literally chased by people that want to touch you, feel your hair, and will pick pocket your purse, so don't carry cash where it can be readily stolen from you.  I hope you have a wonderful time.  I sure did.

  10. They will take you into slavery and sell you for 3 camels.

  11. You can wear almost anything in Sharm ... dont worry at all ... and dont listen to the c**p about shoulder or arms ... its jus silly rumours , especially in Sharm , i'M egyptian by the way ...no one will ever bother you there .. as u said its touristy , all you will get is probably some sales men trying to sell you stuff , thats all but its very peaceful there and people are warm and friendly as well ..

  12. You have to respect their culture and cover up whilst walking around the town. I should also tell you that that African sun is a lot hotter than in Europe so cover up or you will burn badly. The beaches are just like anywhere else just don't topless tan - people do but you can tell they do not approve. You will be fine. Take loads of bug repellant cos the mosquitos are really bad. Have fun!

  13. The Mummy's might get you,

  14. I have been into Egypt 3 times and I love it.You will be fine in shorts and skimpy clothes within your resort, but if you go out and about use a little common sense and decorum and don't flaunt your body.I would not recommend you go there alone or with another female as Egyptian men can be a bit intense. If you go enjoy.

  15. Save yourself all the bother and stay put!

  16. get the Lonely Planet guide to Egypt (or look at it in library)-they have a section on local custom and how not to offend local people

  17. Are you going by yourself?

  18. you can wear all you want in sharm el sheihk  and city like that

I have this image of her in Egypt wearing a pair of wellies and nothing else!

Seriously though? I'd suggest a tent with a periscope stuck through the top... ;)

  20. my boyfriends mom and sister went on a school trip. You cant wear anything above the knee. You have to dress pretty covered up even though its hot there. Get light cotton items

  21. i have been back from Egypt 1 week now i was staying in luxor the only time that i covered up was when i was going to visit the temples other than that i wore what i wanted to and no one said anything.
