Worried about losing car for bankruptcy?

okay so heres the deal. My husband and I purchased a car a year ago and needed a co-signer so we asked my grandmother who has perfect credit. We thought she was the co-signer until we saw the title and saw that her name was first and we were the co-signer. Well that has been fine because we always pay the bill and have since the day we bought the car. The problem now is she is filling for bankruptcy and we are worried that since the car is in her name first that we might loose it even though we have proof that we pay for it. Do you think that can happen? Can we call the people who we have the car financed through and have the car switched to our name instead of just being the co-signer? Im scared?

  1. Your grandmother might have to specifically exclude the car from her filing.  Check with her, and have her check with her lawyer.
