My mum is 41 years old and today from when she woke she can not walk on her left leg she has a lot of pain in her leg when she moves it. I am worrying as well, she is getting older and i'm scared some thing very bad may be wrong...

I'm not young myself any more as i am 21 years old and do not live with my mother as i have a family of my own now.

She is a great friend to me as well has a great mother and grandmother.

Why does this worry me so? I am so upset...

Am i looking on the bad side of things?

  1. There could be lots of reasons for the pain but if she can't walk she should seek advice asap, maybe nothing but better to get professional advice than guess.

  2. your mum needs to get checked over by a doctor, so please convince her to go.  if she wont go for herself, try the old 'do it for me' routine.  you are not being pessimistic - you are looking out for your mother.  it's natural to worry about the ones we love.

  3. There are a lot of things it could be from a "charley horse"/leg cramp to a blood clot.  If her leg is changing colors, get her to an emergency room.  If she continues to have a lot of pain and still cannot walk on it call her doctor before the office closes and ask his/her advice or call the local immediate care clinic and ask.

  4. prob sciatica! stop worrying!

  5. We are all getting older, even a teenager is 'getting older'.  Your mum is not THAT old that she can't look after herself.  In fact she is still young.  If she is worried about her leg she can go to the doctor.   She knows if she needs medial attention or not.

  6. I think what you are referring to is probably sciatica, a simple trapped nerve in her leg. This can cause a lot of pain. If you are not convinced then you should ask her to go and see her GP. I would think it isn't serious whatever it is. Also, your mum at 41, is still young, so please don't worry.

  7. Calm down dear, if your mother is only 41 shes not old at all, 41 is still very young, more than likely she still has another 40 years to live, honestly.

I'm only 28 and about 4 months ago I woke up and couldnt move my left leg at all, before I realized it I stood up out of bed and my leg (being numb) just went from under me and I fell flat on my face. It had me really worried and went on for a few days but eventually did feel normal again so i forgot all about it. Then about a month ago it happened again and I was going to go see the Doctor.

Anyway to cut a story short, before I went to the Doctor I was making my bed(Double bed) and I notice one side of my matress was higher than the other and what had actually happened to my leg was a spring/coil was sticking into my thigh all night long, so when I woke up my leg was completely dead and was dead for several days after.

It wasnt a cheap matress or anything, it was pretty expensive and only about 8 months old (Orthopaedic, good for your back but breaks your legs :)) Point being, check your mothers matress and probably turn it completely over, your meant to do that at oleast twice a year or it damages the springs. Dont spend all your time worrying about your mother, both of you are still young and have a lot of time left together.

If the leg feels the same in a couiple of weeks go to the doctors but it honestly sounds like she just slept wrong, sort of like a creek in your kneck, we all know how they feel, its the same thing.

Sorry for going on so much, it will all work out for you, Good Luck.

  8. 41 is hardly knocking on heaven's door! Tell your mum you're worried and would feel happier if she went to the doctors, but I'm sure she is capable of judging these things for herself.
