Question:

Worried about my parakeet, is she okay?

I just bought a parakeet yesterday and I'm really worried about her. She's chirped maybe twice since I got her. Besides being really quiet, I haven't seen her drink or eat from her food dishes even once. I've hand fed her a couple of times, but it really worries me that she won't drink. She hardly ever moves, she just stands in one spot and doesn't even touch her toys. Is she okay? Is she just worried about being in a new home? If she gets thirsty enough do you think she'll find her dish and drink?

  1. Don't worry they are all shy when they come home.  She will get used to her toys and play with them and also eat and drink eventually.  Don't worry about it.

  2. its okay. chill. i have parakeets. the first day they hardly do anything. once she gets used to her surroundings, she should eat and drink.

  3. It eats and drink when you are not looking or at night.

Because you did not hand feed it, it is scared and obviously stressed now. LEt it cool down. Let it listen to classical music with birds chirping and try no to do anything to it for two weeks. It would get use to it.

    Good Luck!

  4. what u can do is buy a book about ur bird and learn about it and i would say its just not used to ur house.

  5. its ok it can take a while for them to settle in and get used to their new surroundings. i wouldn't hand feed her as she may get used to this and not feed from her bowl by her self, let her find her own way around for a few days, try to keep things as quiet as possible and she will soon be contented. you could get a book to help put your mind at rest and to give you some more ideas as to help her settle. good luck i hope this helps you and enjoy your new friend x

  6. Try to find out her age, maybe she is to young.
