I need surgery on my hand, wrist. My thing is how can I get permanent disability. My doctor says that the surgery isn't going to make a big difference. My funds ran out . So I don't know if I should just settle. I am broke, need to sell my jewelry, extra car I have. If I just settle and get future Meds, which includes future surgery's. But I am worried cause both my hands are so swollen and they always hurt. I can only type for a little while, cause my hands ache after..do I tell the Lawyer or Doctor I can't work this way. I still have years to work. And don't know what kind of work I can do in my future, just scared, cause I have always depended on myself. Help Please, I am not lazy, just my body doesn't work anymore. Due to injury. Thank You...This gets me depress.

  1. Why do you want permanent disability? It seems that you are still young.

Go back to school and train for a different kind of work. Contact your state Rehabilitation Commission. You will be surprised how easy it is.

  2. There are a lot of jobs that you can do without using your hands; you will just have to be creative.  A Rehabilitation Specialist can help you with this situation.  I have worked with blind people in an office setting and they used voice recognition programs to make it so they did not have to type.  There are answers out there.  =)

    Good luck!
