Question:

Worried that my puppy could get parvo!?

Hi. I have now a 13 week cocker spaniel. I just got her last week and have taken her to petco a few time. I am usually carrying her through the store but she has sat on the floor. And I also have taken her on about 3 walks. Not very long ones because she doesn't really like walks. But she has been in the front yard of my parents house where a lot of dogs walk by. And she also has been on the pavement/grass outside of my apatment complex. She has all her vaccinations (at least according to the breeder and her paper work). And she is getting her last vaccination Bordetella tomorrow. Do you think there is a chance she could have parvo? She has no symptoms for it. If my puppy did come in contact with it, how long would it be till she showed any signs of the disease?

Any help will be really appreciated! I am worried, I dont want to be responsible for my puppy dying. I wont be taking her on any walks until she is a few months older.

  1. You are not supposed to let your puppy outside or on the ground until she has all of her shots so there is a chance she could get parvo

  2. I wouldn't stress that your puppy has parvo just because she's been exposed to the outside world. But it's good to be cautious.

Symptoms take 3-14 days to show up, but once they do, you have to act fast. Any loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, take your puppy to the vet immediately.

  3. If the other owner got the shots for the puppy they'll give you proof that it was done, either copies of the paperwork if you ask, or the name and phone number of the vet who did the vaccinations.

Definately CHECK that these were in fact given to the puppy, to make sure that they were.
