Worries for Liverpool
It was another sad day for Roy Hodgson as Liverpool lost to Tottenham 2-1 at White Hart Lane. Despite of getting the first goal, Liverpool was unable to convert their chances followed by
some excellent defending by the spurs defense line. Sebastien Bassong denied Torres from getting the visitors a 2-0 lead before the half time. Torres in some recent games isn’t showing the standards he had set for himself in the club as well as in the national
team.
I was pleased with Fernando Torres. Fernando himself, because he sets very high standards, will be disappointed he didn't take one of the goal chances which his good play - to be fair -
created." This statement from Liverpool’s manager shows his concern over the striker as he has failed to lift his side away from problems and worries. Even the injury of Rafael van der Vaart in the 12th minute didn’t let Liverpool take the game
away from spurs. Not only this but Younes Kaboul tore his hip muscle just before half time and was substituted.
Despite these injuries, Tottenham managed to get their fifth league victory in style.
The match seemed as though it would be a draw after Martin Skrtel scored to take the match into injury time. But Tottenham were continuously attacking, because of which Aaron Lennon managed to get the ball into the net in the 92nd minute and got them
one step closer to the top. Managing a win over Arsenal by coming back from 2-0, and beating Liverpool 2-1 will make Tottenham’s manager quite happy followed by their ticket into the Champions League Knockout phase.
Roy Hodgson’s worries have been increased by the injury of Jamie Carragher, who joined Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Joe Cole on the bench, after suffering from a dislocated shoulder in the dying minutes of the game.
The Reds still have a lot to prove in this season as they have come back from the bottom half’s relegation zone. The team’s manager has been criticized over the team’s performance again and again which is continuously increasing the pressure on the side.
A win for the team will prove to be a life saver for both the team’s and the players reputations. Liverpool will play Manchester United and Chelsea in January and February, which could prove disastrous for the club as Torres is out of form and two star players
are on the bench.
A win over the Red Devils in the FA cup draw would not only boost the morale of the team, but give the fans something to cheer about.
