Worry about jellyfish tomorrow?

Well tomorrow is my first time on swimming in the beach. I was worry and caution about jellyfish and I heard that many people got stung by a jellyfish. The beach I am going is Lagoona Beach (Not sure if I spellled it right.) Anyways, does jellyfish live near the beach? What happen if I swim or snorkle around the water, will there be jellyfish that attacks you? What do you have to do to prevent jellyfish from stinging you? I am a bit worry. I also heard that it hurts if the jellyfish stings you. Please help! Anyone has any experience or something?

P.S. one last not really PART of the question, I am just WONDERING if the waves come while you swim will you drown or something? Cause I went to raging waters and like there is this pool with fake waves coming towards you and I was there i was swimming towards the waves to see how it felt like and I was almost drowning. I swim as hard to get out of there! Yes I was saved. . . .(Dont have to answer this question LOL)

  1. hmm well i live in ventura about 100 miles away maybe from laguna. you can find jellyfish every once in a while pretty much anywhere there is an ocean, but it definitely isn't something we worry about around here. laguna beach is very popular and it wouldn't be that way if there was much danger around. jellyfish won't attack you, they will sting you only if you go up to it and bother it, besides that i don't think you have much to worry about.

you won't drown from the waves, you'll actually probably see people out surfing or more likely body surfing since we haven't had decent swell in a while. body surfing is fun and you just go out in the waves and kind of dive and swim with them to the shore as they roll in. if you can't swim very well just don't go out too far in the water! its pretty easy. we're only having like 3-4 ft. waves right now and trust me that's like nothing. have fun in california!

  2. Jellyfish are not ubiquitous in the water. They are quite rare at popular beaches, and if you are going swimming at Laguna Beach, which is one of the most popular areas for swimming, then I would not worry at all. If there are quite a few people in the water, then it is very likely safe to swim.

Regarding the waves, yes, the waves can be very violent. Often, when the waves are very strong and violent, they can knock you over, whirl you around underwater and grind you against the sandy ocean floor, like you are in a washing machine. Not pleasant...Again, let the other people who are in the ocean be your gauge. If you see other individuals of your size, children, etc. out in the water and they are not struggling against the waves, then don't worry about it.

I LOVE ocean swimming. Do enjoy tomorrow and good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine.
