  1. OSI, He was going to step it up this year and be the key guy on defense, with the lost of Michael Strahan, Mathias Kiwanuka OLB, and 1 of their safety's. Thats just on defense, not to mention that they trade Jeremy Shockey for a pack of tic tac's and a coupon at Burger King.

    Giants really screwed this year

  2. i guess osi, cuz he anchors the d line plus the chargers have a better defense than the g men

  3. osi because they all ready lost strahan and there d-line is not as good

  4. Osi  because he was one of the best defensive players for the giants and Merriman is just one player when the whole defense is really good

  5. osi

  6. Merriman is the better player but I think the Giants will miss Osi more because the Chargers have a better over all defense.

  7. osi out is worse

  8. The Giants it worse fo them because of them losing Strahan to retirement and Shockey to Free Agency, the Chargers are really the same Team as they we're last year at this time, just Merriman for a while but not for the season and in the End the Chargers will still make the Playoffs but just not the Super Bowl and The Giants will miss the playoffs.

  9. definitley the giants the chargers have the talent to help conceal the void left by merriman the giants d line was already stretched by strahan retiring

  10. That is a very good question.  I'm going to argue that Shawne Merriman is the bigger lost.

My reasoning is this: depth.  When you look at the Giants' defensive line depth, it's still there.  Justin Tuck did well in a rotational role, and I really do believe he can shine this year being a starter.  Couple that with Mathias Kiwanuka  sliding back into his natural position of DE, the line will not be that bad.  Overall, the line won't be AS good as last year's, but it'll be just fine in causing disrupting.

This is in stark comparison to the Charger's LB situation.  Sure, you have Shaun Phillips still in the line up, but to replace the production that Merriman  gave you with a shallow depth chart is just not going to bode well. Merriman was the spark plug to that defense, and he's going to be sorely missed.

One other reasoning I have is that quite frankly, Merriman means more/ worth more to his team than Umenyiora.  OLB in a 3-4 defense is vastly more of an important position than a DE in a blitz heavy 4-3.  The Giants will still get pressure because of Spagnola's system.  Chargers on the other hand?  I really don't believe they can, especially being that it's Merriman that's lost.
